THOMAS METZINGER is currently?Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universit?t Mainz?and an?Adjunct Fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Study (FIAS). He is also?Director of the?Neuroethics Research Unit?in Mainz?and?Director of the?MIND Group?at the FIAS.

Dr. Metzinger is past president of the German Cognitive Science Society (2005-2007) and of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (2009-2011). His?focus of research lies in analytical philosophy of mind and cognitive science, as well as in connections between ethics, philosophy of mind and anthropology.

In the English language, he is the author of The Ego Tunnel: The Science of the Mind and the Myth of the Self, and editor of two collections, Conscious Experience, and Neural Correlates of Consciousness, as well as a scientific monograph, Being No One: The Self-Model Theory of Subjectivity. His two open access collections are Open MIND?(2015), followed by Philosophy & Predictive Processing?(2017).

That Aenesid��mus held this view is stated as a fact by Sextus, whose testimony is here corroborated by Tertullian, or rather by Tertullian��s informant, Soranus. We find, however, that Zeller, who formerly accepted the statement in question as true, has latterly seen reason to reject it.188 Aenesid��mus cannot, he thinks, have been guilty of so great an inconsistency as to base his Scepticism on the dogmatic physics of Heracleitus. And he explains the agreement of the ancient authorities by supposing that the original work of Aenesid��mus contained a critical account of the Heracleitean theory, that this was misinterpreted into an expression of his adhesion to it by Soranus, and that the blunder was adopted at second-hand by both Sextus and Tertullian.299 He himself had never dreamed how it irked her until now.
